We are all adjusting to new routines after COVID-19. Like many, you may have been challenged when gyms closed down and perhaps saw your fitness and strength slip a bit over the last few months. More than ever, when you get back into your fitness routine (solo or with a trainer), it's important to return with the right approach. Building a good foundation with your workouts is what I mean.
We’ve all seen pictures of the great pyramids, or maybe you have been lucky enough to see them firsthand?
This is the same idea for fitness and your workouts. Let me help you find the starting point to build upon your foundation. I can assure you, no matter your current base, we will make progress together to accomplish your goals.
Top 5 things to consider when you get back into your workout routine?
Start with your current abilities. An assessment. Depending on your goals you and I will build a progressive plan to accomplish your vision. This is about being present: not looking too far ahead or feeling like you cannot get out off a hole. Let me meet you right where you are. It's a great first step to launch from!
What time can you carve out to reach your goals? Your time should coincide with the height of your pyramid. The hard reality is, building your base isn’t a sexy process, but it does work when you are consistent little by little. Brick by brick. Be ready for some sweat, discomfort, heavy breathing, and likely sore muscles. These are all signs you are getting better and stronger! And this is where I can help. As your trainer, I help you with a plan, but I'm also there to encourage you, motivate you and join you and support you.
What about your gear? A small investment in new gym shoes and some workout clothes will not only help you feel good, but can help you avoid injuries. A great deal of damage can be done on an old, busted-up pair of shoes. If it's a been while since your last workout, treat yourself for tackling this worthwhile effort.
Start small. It's about the long-haul. It's natural to want immediate results, but that's not realistic. Calibrate your expectations to look for small improvements when starting out. You may start by covering a mile in 15 minutes, a mix of jogging and walking. Awesome! Next, add some extra distance to that mile. Don’t worry about speed just yet that will come. It’s also time to add in some weight training to strengthen muscles to support the joints. Then the base gets wider and more solid. Doing one thing all the time won't widen your base. When you work with me as your fitness trainer, we can add fun new workout elements to cross-train your body and mind to see results.
Celebrate small improvements! You are working incrementally to get where you want to go. If you always look towards the finish line, you might miss the fun stuff in between. Don't forget to celebrate the small steps and stay present. You will get to the end goal with that approach, by building your base.
Remember those pyramids? They’ve held up for a long time! They were built on a solid foundation one stone at a time. Let me help you build a new approach to fitness so you can keep going for long time, too!
